Army Fitness Test (AFT) Standards

The Army Fitness Test (AFT) is the official physical fitness test of record for all Soldiers, replacing the Army Combat Fitness Test ACFT. It was developed to better measure overall Soldier fitness, directly tie performance to warfighting readiness, and build a stronger, more capable force. RAND Corporation research and data from nearly one million test records were used to shape the new standards.

Unlike its predecessor, the AFT focuses on five well-rounded events that challenge different muscle groups, endurance levels, and movement patterns essential for military performance. These events are designed not only to test physical capability but also to encourage consistent training, reduce injury risk, and ensure Soldiers are mission-ready in both combat and support roles. Our guide below breaks down these events, explains the AFT standards , and full AFT scoring chart. Use our AFT Calculator to see your score.
